Franklin, TN (Associated Press) Nissan has announced a voluntary recall of all of its Pathfinder models following this weekend's bomb scare in Times Square, company officials announced today.
"We want to calm fears and make sure that our vehicles are not loaded with explosives installed in the factory or via after-market vendors," said Scott Stevens, Vice President of Corporate Communications in North America.
Nissan will offer free inspections by its technicians and mechanics at all of its dealerships in the United States beginning immediately. "No appointments will be necessary," Stevens stated, "Just drive up and jump out and we will take a look."
Many dealerships will begin staffing bomb-sniffing dogs and their respective handlers, Stevens continued, and all are required to build ultra heavy duty brick and lead-based barriers behind which drivers may take cover while their vehicles are being inspected.
Industry analysts believe Nissan is taking this extremely conservative and pre-emptive position in order to distance themselves from fellow carmaker Toyota, which has taken a beating in recent months regarding vehicle safety issues.
